Safety Toolbox Talks

Safety Toolbox Talks

Last year I wrote a post about Safety Shorts. Safety Shorts, Safety Line Talks, or Safety Fives are a great way to start any meeting.  It’s just five minutes, but can help remind employees about the importance of safety and promoting safety in the workplace.

Sometimes it’s a little difficult to come up with some topics.  Just recently I found this great resource that the Maine Department of Labor has on-line.  Their version of Safety Shorts are SafetyWorks! Toolbox Talks.  They did a great job in presenting these talks with links to download the topic in a pdf form to hand-out to a group.  They also have suggestions about how to present safety talks at meetings and get group discussions going about the topic.

Topic list:

  • Proper Lifting
  • Using Hammers and Chisels
  • Compressed Gas
  • The Deadly Dozen
  • Electrical Hazards
  • Excavations
  • Eye Protection
  • Fire Protection and Control
  • Guardrails
  • Head Protection – Hard Hats
  • Heat Exhaustion/Sunstroke
  • Heavy Equipment Hazards
  • Heavy Equipment
  • Ladder Safety
  • Power Lines and Mobile Cranes
  • Clothing (PPE)
  • Personal Protective Equipment – Concrete Construction
  • Safety Training Steps
  • Traffic Control
  • Mobile Scaffold Safety

To download any of these safety talks on the topics above, just go to SafetyWorks! Main Department of Labor
